Johan Brooks is a documentary photographer based in Tokyo, Japan. Originally from the UK, he grew up in New York City and has lived in Japan for over 15 years. His work is grounded in everyday life, with a focus on people, culture, and communities. Johan is drawn to stories that reveal what lies beneath the surface—exploring themes such as isolation, aging, and civic duty, as seen in his projects Kodokushi, The Erosion Beneath, and Fire Corps.

Whether on assignment, working on in-depth documentary projects, or shooting on the street, Johan approaches photography as a human process, prioritizing a hands-on approach with a focus on human connection over clinical perfection. His photography has been exhibited internationally, published in multiple photobooks, and regularly appears in The Japan Times. He has also worked with clients such as the British Embassy Tokyo, and is a member of the VoidTokyo photography collective.

ヨハン・ブルックスは東京を拠点とするドキュメンタリー写真家です。イギリス出身で、ニューヨークで育ち、15年以上にわたり日本に暮らしています。彼の作品は、日常生活に根ざし、人々、文化、コミュニティに焦点を当てています。ヨハンは、孤独死、高齢化、市民活動といったテーマを通して、「表面の奥にあるもの」を明らかにするようなストーリーに惹かれています。代表的なプロジェクトに『Kodokushi』『The Erosion Beneath』『Fire Corps』があります。

取材や長期的なドキュメンタリープロジェクト、あるいはストリートスナップにおいても、ヨハンは写真を人間的なプロセスとして捉え、無機質な完璧さではなく、人とのつながりを重視したハンズオンなアプローチを大切にしています。彼の写真は国際的に展示され、複数の写真集に掲載されており、『The Japan Times』にも定期的に掲載されています。また、英国大使館（東京）などのクライアントとも仕事をしており、VoidTokyo写真コレクティブのメンバーでもあります。
